  • Math Error in Holidays

    By admin | December 18, 2008

Not too long ago I received this email. I think this first pop up when I was still in lower secondary and I was like yeah man… not enough time.

Now in college, rereading this again I notice the huge math error in it.

Scroll to the bottom to find out what’s the first step that caused the chain of errors which misleads young teens like me.

It’s not the fault of student if
he/she fails because the year ONLY
    has 365 days…
typical academic year for a student:

    1. Sundays - 52 Sundays in a year, you know Sundays are for rest.
    Days left 313.

    2. Summer holidays - 50 where weather is very hot and difficult to study.
    Days left 263.

    3. 8 hours daily sleep - 130 days GONE.
    Days left 141.

    4. 1 hour for daily playing- (good for health) means 15 days.
    Days left 126.

    5. 2 hours daily for food & other delicacies (chewing properly &  swallowing) - means 30 days.
    Days left 96.

    6. 1 hour for talking (man is a social animal) - means 15 days.
    Days left 81.

    7. Exam days - per year at least 35 days.
    Days left 46.

    8. Quarterly, half yearly and festival (holidays) - 40 days.
    Days left 6.

    9. For sickness - at least 3 days.
    Days left 3.

    10. Movies and functions- at least 2 days.
    1 day left.

    11. That 1 day is your birthday.
How can you study on that day ?!?!?!?!?!

    Balance = 0
    ‘ How can a student pass ?????’

*Please pass this on and you will have good luck for your
examinations through out your life studying =)

    Saw the problem?

It occurs in step 3. Where it says, 8 hours of sleep and it removes 130 days. The problem is that it should not count the other days which are eliminated at step 1 and 2. Instead of dividing 365 days by 3 to get 130 (which is also wrong) they should only use the remaining days that you actually are going to study. Which means this should be one of the very last step.

I could go on and on but ahah I know this is just a joke but, I just love bursting bubbles.

    Cheerios

    Leverage (2008) TV show

    By admin | December 12, 2008

Sorry bout the lack of updates. Amazingly busy with my hobby, MTG and now MTGO and maybe WOW thanks to John Tan.

Anyway I feel some shows are going to end like maybe Prison Break (boo) but on the other hand couple of shows have started premeiring such as 24 (Yeeeee) and a new unknown show Leverage.

So far theres been only 2 episodes and I am blown away with it.

Its about a group of theives, lead by some ex-insurance investigator and a whole bunch of other thieves. Of course just like the Italian Job, theres like an expert theif, expert IT guy, expert diversion, expert fighter and an of course the mastermind.

Instead of stealing just for the money, they steal stuff, to help unfortunate people from big corporations and stuff.

Pretty exciting. Its like watching THE JOB series, but since they have like a 50 minute cap airtime, they skip out most of the planning steps and go straight most of the time into the action part. So even you are clueless on what their plan is.

Only problem is, the cast is still pretty fresh, at least to me, otherwise, the plot and story is just perfect.

    Star Flaws

    By admin | November 26, 2008

Recently I was coming back from Boise, Idaho for a Pro Tour Qualifier: Kyoto (I went 4-2) btw and it was like 6 hour drive, me and my teammates in the car talked about everything under the sun, and we came to the topic of Star Wars.

So we had 2 Computer Science Major an Engineer and a neurologist in the car and we discussed about the scientific flaws about Star Wars.

    Here’s the list.

1-The most obvious is whenever there has an explosion, it should be silent as there is no air molecules to be the transfer medium for the sound waves.

2-If using the force allows you to hold someone up in the air, why can’t you hold yourself up allowing u to fly?

3-Why force users (Jedi/Sith) doesn’t use their force to nick an artery or pinch the brain causing immediete kill without even having to wield a lightsaber?

4-Lightsaber is powered by a crystal that does not ever deplete, wouldn’t its composition be similar to a uranium, and why Jedi’s get to live till old age when they should be getting cancers like at the age of 15?

5-Why are objects experiencing air resistance while in space? like u see how those figher planes their propulsion is always on, and when there is no air resistance, that aircraft will experience constant acelleration and a steady increase in velocity which brings one problem. How on earth to break? When they shut down their engines they’ll still be flying off crazy high speed already.

6-The planes turn around using flaps, but without air resistance, what is there to turn the plane?

7-I wonder why when someone loses a limb from a lightsaber like Anakin in episode 2, blood isn’t squirting out like a watergun from his arm, infact I don’t even see any blood? Does a lightsaber seal up the wound, clotting up the damage area?

8-I’d rather be a sith, I got free electricity then and the look cooler.

9-Emperor Paltapine died in episode 6 in a super lame manner. Being thrown off like a baby. Lucas could do better then that. Refer to the 2nd problem.

10-Why doesn’t a Jedi just control his lightsaber while its turned on and use the force to make it spin around him or kill all the battledroids/enemies like a lawn mower in action? just saves time. Or carry two one in hand to defend the other mow battledroids.

11-When they jump into light speed, their organs should just burst due to the high g-force experienced or when they jump out of light speed, their eye balls should pop out like when you slam the break really hard.

haha okie its kinda lame but oh well, just too free and had nothing better to do while on the way back.

    Humility and Pride

    By admin | November 17, 2008

Today I heard a very good talk today about humility and pride. Have you ever hated someone scolding you or brushing you off even though you know you are right but they did it anyway just because of their pride. And this often happens even at home, with parents who “ate salt more then u ate rice” or elder siblings who abuses their authority.

To avoid this problem, simply share this talk I heard today.

Pride is often who is right, whereas humility is what is right.

Sometimes people get caught up and do not admit their own mistakes because they will look dumb to lower ranked people (like their kids, or employee with lower post). Remind them, what is the right thing to do here? What is best for everyone?

I know its impossible to have everyone think for everyone else but do you part today and make the world a better nicer place to live in.

Note: I’m not supporting you in arguing with your parents when you are right. Many times, although we think we are right, listening to our parents can hardly be wrong as they indeed have more experience, and about eating salt more then we eat rice, I’m not to sure about that though.

I thank my parents for all their guidiance for all these 21 years.

    Thank you parents today.

    By admin | November 2, 2008

My dynamics professor, told us that his mom was born on the 31st of October, and the joke was everytime he was angry at his mom he would call her a witch.

I dunno just seems soo funny.

    Petronas Twin Towers Pride

    By admin | October 30, 2008

Okie something stupid happen in the last Civil Engineering Seminar.

So there was this prof, professor of geotechnical engineering and he worked on many mega structures and one of them is the Petronas Twin Towers. So he was explaining what geotechnical engineers do and stuff and he showed examples of megastructures and stuff, and then he came to the Petronas Twin Tower slide, and he asked the whole auditorium of maybe around 250+ students what building it was and where, I quickly raised my hand and answered Petronas Twin Towers in Malaysia (would be great if I would have just stopped there but I added) Jalan Ampang… zzz… I got no idea why I added that. Althought I did live there for 7 years and 5 minutes from the tallest twin towers in the world but… just embarrasing. Everyone turned and started at me and paused…

Maybe I’m proud we have the tallest twin towers in the world and also the deepest foundation in the world (over a hundred meters deep) and we don’t have much to be proud of as in nothing else is as famous as that

    By admin | October 28, 2008

So I was just thinking like, you know some people who are in science field tends to prefer shows closer to their major or atleast have some interest in it.

So heres the list that I can think of. If no name is specified meaning there are more then one character in the show.

Civil Engineering : Micheal Scoffield of Prison Break

Electrical Engineering: Chuck Bartouski of Chuck

    Businessman: Dirty Sexy Money

    Physicist: Big Bang Theory, Fringe

    Chemist: Fringe,

    Math wiz: Numb3rs

Medicine: Dr. Gregory House, Greys Anatomy and not forgetting SCRUBS. Dexter sort of counts as well.

    Overstudy=crazy?

    By admin | October 27, 2008

Yeah my midterms over, which explains for the lack of updates.

I have this problem, well I think its a problem, I see everything now with a different perspective compared to last time. I see things differently like, when I see a guy sitting on a long desk, I can actually visualize a color module on a stress distribution throughout the entire desk or the forces acting on a freaking water pipe.

Even when I watch shows and movies I start to see and analyze what is feasible and what is scientifically unsound. Like how can that happen, probabilty and etc.

    I do that without realizing.

    I think I’m going kookoo.

    Or maybe this is normal…

Maybe Michaeal Scoffield’s brain does that too :P

BYU Football Game vs New Mexico

    By admin | October 13, 2008

So I’ve never been to a football game till yesterday and when I say football, I mean American football not soccer. Thanks to Nat my housemate who manage to get free tickets for me and not only were they free, they were the best seats in the entire stadium. No, I’m serious. Right in the middle, not too low until I can’t see the entire field, nor too high where I can’t see the numbers of players and close to the exit where the consessions stall and restroom were, which were really important to me, I love a snacks while watching something.

    Here are some pics.

    Panorama 1

    Panorama 2

    Panorama 3

    The band was insane

The Drumline, but without any of  those one on one duels like in the movie

Yes, those are the players for only one team.

There were like 80 players on one team. I’m starting to like football more then soccer. The entire game was like 3 hours plus and it was over before I knew it. So much fun, so exciting with the band playing songs whenever we score, or even when we defended they played the Imperial march team from Starwars and the crowd we start doing a routine, sang and cheered. You have to be there.

Soccer is nice, but football is way more interesting. Who doesn’t love body contact. Seeing players getting crushed, taunting each other and ramming into another player without holding back. Probably it won’t be as famous around the world compared to soccer because you need to be really tough to play and not everyone can play it.

This is me and Nat at the game. Thanks Nat.

Hate the Cold. First day it snowed. Haih, a very long cold winter is coming.

Just so you know the game ended with BYU 21 - New Mexico 3, kinda sad that we scored so little. BYU is now ranked 8 in the nation, very tough fight, and are in contending for the national championship so, not only must we win, but we must win by alot.

Jun Yong (student of Penn State), I’ll see you at the BCS Championship bowl :P

Also the attendance was close to 65 thousand fans and not all the seats were filled up. Insane, thats just 10k plus short of Man United max capacity in Old Trafford.

    Go Cougars!

edit: Thanks Ruri (BYUSA President for the tickets)

The Fly in the Car question

    By admin | October 7, 2008

    Exam week…. zzz.

My family and I always wondered why doesn’t a fly/mosquito stick to the rear window in the car when the car accelerates? So I bet everyone could roughly guess the answer but today I ask my Dynamics Professor about it and he explain to me that it was because of the gradient of the air pressure in the car that brings the fly in the same direction as the movement of car. It does move a little bit but its significant enough for us to notice it.

    Think you understand it?

Answer this question, if you have a helium balloon inside the car, and when you accelerate forward, which direction does the balloon moves?

    Forward

    Highlight above for the answer.

The explanation is because Air has a higher mass density and when the car accelerates forward particle with heavier mass will go backwards as by Newtons law. Because Helium is lighter/lower density then Air, it goes forward as all the Air particle is moving towards the back of the car.
